It’s finally time to reflect on the incredible success of our very first Women’s Awards Wales. Held on the 3rd March in the ever impressive Senedd, women across wales came together to celebrate, highlight and uplift personal and professional achievements.
However, the WAW Awards signified far more than an awards ceremony, it was a celebration of community, courage and collectivity.
On the evening, the room was bustling with a sense of excitement. Seats were full, guests were networking and it was finally time to reap the benefits of WAW’s preparation and hard work. Finalists, supporters, sponsors and guests came together with a shared purpose of celebrating women who are making a difference in workplaces, communities and industries across Wales.
We were incredibly fortunate to be joined by several female members of the Senedd, and our deepest gratitude goes to Julie Morgan, our sponsor, for facilitating the event and providing the perfect venue. The First Minister Eluned Morgan gave a poignant speech discussing the importance of recognising progression of Women’s rights and how much harder we have to work as Welsh women! It is worth noting that this is extremely apt as Eluned Morgan is the first ever woman to be First Minister of Wales, paving the way for future generations of Welsh women in politics.
Another standout moment was hearing from all of our finalists and winners in each category, inspiring the room with their journeys of hardship, professional development and personal growth. Attendees were deeply moved, with one guest describing the evening as: “So uplifting and incredibly inspiring WAW - you are creating a phenomenal community!”
The ripples of the awards will continue as we at the Women’s Academy Wales highlight, share and support our community through their future endeavours. Whether it be attending events, sharing posts or collaborating, we will continue to fill the gap left by Chwarae Teg and support women in Wales. Events like these remind us that change begins with purposeful and determined women, women who are shaping a brighter, more inclusive future for Wales.
